Artsy-Fartsy

Hey people.

I figured for today's post since I didn't take any new pics, I'd float by today by posting some of my forays into creative art. And yes I did take Graphic Design, but my skills are nowhere where'd I like them to be. So bear with me, and humor my ass for a little bit okay?

You know all those funny demotivational and Pwned pics that you find everywhere on the internet? Yeah I enjoy a good bit of them too. So much in fact, that I even tried my hand at a few. Enjoy.

Remember where that quote came from? Here's a hint, it was before the hideous George Clooney era, but right after the awesome Michael Keaton series.

This is from an actual picture of Adam West riding an elephant. And no, I don't know why the fuck he was doing that, but what the hell, he's Adam West!

And here's some variations on the theme:

Any House of 1000 Corpses fans in the audience? I fell in love instantly with this cult-classic hit by Rob Zombie when I first saw this movie. Then he made the sequel, Devil's Rejects, and I really dug that. Not only did I really enjoy the sequel as much as the first, but it's in Devil's Rejects that I discovered classic rocker,Terry Reid. Of course all those things are topics for another day, back to what I was originally talking about.

Anyway, I made a faux-movie poster-type thing for House of 1000 Corpses using the picture I took of my uncompleted C&C's and various spare parts. Here's at least seven different versions of what I was trying to accomplish, and yes I like to change things up and make several variations in a theme:

As you can clearly see, I was playing around with what type of font best suited the logo for the faux-poster, and since I'm not good enough to photoshop the real movie logo onto the poster, I went with the next best thing of trying out various fonts.

I personally like the all-red, and and red- and yellow- Psycho-style fonts myself.

Next up is really old work I did on MS Paint. I was creating a faux-comic book cover for a superhero character of sorts I created called "Bug Man." Yes, I know, very creative name genius"(sarcasm)

But it's the best and easiest I can thing of that applies to a guy who's basically Animal Man, but with bug powers only. His visual was kind of based of an old TNMT episode I watched where a scientist/entomologist, was working on some kind of weird formula, for something, I don't know. But he was attacked by Foot soldiers, and left for dead, whilst being drenched in his own formula and various other chemicals. Yeah I know that sounds perverted if taken out of context, but I swear that's how it happened. It was the early 90's, what'd you expect?

Anyways, he wakes up and starts to grow wings, a scorpion tail, bug eyes, and pinchers out of the side of his mouth. I'm talking shit that you probably saw in the movie Guyver. Yeah, that kind of freaky! Hell he made Baxter Stockman look like Antonio Bandareas compared to what this guy wind up looking like.

Here's Baxter Stockman:
baxtor14.jpg

So yeah, that's how I imagined would happen to this guy I made up. He was/is a scientist trying to work on a super-soldier-like serum, but loaded to the fucking nine with different types of bug DNA and venom/blood, and there you go.

And here's the kicker, you know who his main antagonist is? Come on, it's so obvious? The Extreminator!
Yep, I'm just a creative sonuvabitch sometimes.

So here's my humble effort at a possible comic book cover for Bug-Man:

The text on the side, in case you're wondering what the fuck that's all about, is my attempt at insect language- speak for Bug-Man. Again, I'm just so damn creative, can't you tell?

Interesting factoid, or not, I used to want to be an Entomologist when I was little, since I liked bugs so much, or rather killing them so much. I guess its a good thing that never happened, or else I might have ended up as a bug exterminator since I don't think I'd have the attention span or good enough grades to make it as a scientist.

Oh wait! On further investigation into the bug doctor episode, I discovered he too was called Bugman, and was Michelangelo's favorite super-hero. Nice.

Here's what he looked like transforming, you know, just in case you were curious:

It's wet, it's wild, it's Liquid Television!?

Bonus Post today:

As I was laying restless in bed last night trying in vain to sleep, my mind kept buzzing with thought after thought.
One of those thoughts included the little-respected gem of a show that was featured on MTV in the mid-90's:

Yes, Liquid Television, the show so weird, ground-breaking, and ahead of its time that even if it came back, it'd still go over current TV viewer's heads. If you still don't remember this show, this might help jog your memory:

I discovered LT around '95, and couldn't believe how weird and wonderful it all was! It's one of many shows around that era/time-frame to scar and corrupt my poor little brain, and cause me to turn out like the well-adjusted adult I am today. Kidding.

Also around this time, MTV's Oddities was on, featuring The Head and Sam Keith's The Maxx from Image Comics.
These were all little various animated shorts that sometime had a theme, but mostly didn't. I've heard the show described as perfect for stoners, and that sounds about right.

Don't forget pople, there's actual dvd sets/volumes of the show still out there, so go get 'em.

I'll leave with some of the more popular shorts so you can get a small taste of the wonderful weirdness that just permated from the show.

Your welcome.

"Wake up, wake up, 'cause it's the 1st of the month"

Hey people,
Guess what today is? It's the of the month Muthafuckas!
Sorry, just had to say that.

Yes folks, it's that time of the month when most working people get paid and it either blow it all on a Friday and/or Saturday night, or be responsible and pay their damn bills. Or as famously said by Chuck D of Public Enemy, "All my money's spent on the goddamn rent!"

Well, in honor of this popular time of the month, let me offer up this (should be)well-known ode to the 1st of the month by the 90's rap group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Take it away gentlemen:

Alright people, have a safe weekend and a happy Labor Day!

"When I get mad and I get pissed, I grab my pen And I write out a list "

"When I get mad
And I get pissed
I grab my pen
And I write out a list
Of all the people
That won't be missed
You've made my shitlist

For all the ones
Who bum me out
Shitlist
For all the ones
Who fill my head with doubt
Shitlist
For all the squares who get me pissed
Shitlist
You've made my shitlist

Shitlist
Shitlist

When I get mad
And I get pissed
Shitlist
I grab my pen
And write out a list
Shitlist
Of all you assholes
Who won't be missed
Shitlist
You've made my shitlist

Shitlist
Shitlist
"

And on that note, here's my definitive list of the Top 10 things that are my fav. Yeah I you didn't ask, but I'm going to give them to you anyways.

This particular list has always been hard for me to pin down, simply due to the sheer amount of bands to choose from. The last half of the list might change daily depending on what kind of mood I'm in, but here's the cut for know.

Top Ten Favorite Classic Rock Bands:
  1. The Beatles

  2.  Led Zepplin

  3. The Rolling Stones

  4. The Doors

  5. Pink Floyd

  6. Black Sabbath

  7. The Allman Brothers

  8. The Who

  9. Cream

  10. Aerosmith/Queen

-I'd put Van Halen in here, but they lose major points for turning into VanHagar in 1985.

In no particular order;

Top Ten Favorite 90's Rock Bands:
  1.  Pearl Jam

  2. Alice In Chains

  3. Nirvania

  4. Stone Temple Pilots

  7.  Nine Inch Nails

  8. White Zombie

  10.  Guns N' Roses(They squeeze on here even though they debuted in the 80's)

-I do feel I have to make a quick note here. While I love Blur, The Cranberries, Travis, and Radiohead, they're mostly pop, not rock. I could be wrong here, but that's how I see it.

    Going out on a Lim

I was just re-reading the Infinity Gauntlet#6, which by the way is a very good mini-series, and it reminded me how much I loved Ron Lim's artwork back in the day. Back in the 90's, Ron Lim was everywhere; He was on Silver Surfer, Captain America, Spider-Man, X-Men 2099, and even What If? for an issue or 2. He was everywhere, yet deserved all the work he got simply because he's a solid artist on who's on time. You can't beat those qualities in an artist, thus Lim was Marvel's golden boy for awhile.

My 1st exposure to Lim was his beautiful work on Silver Surfer and Captain America. Idk why I was initially attracted to his work other then that I found his art to be so clean and shiny, plus he could really draw.
I didn't have a lot of previous exposure to other artists' rendition of the Silver Surfer, but Lim's interpretation made a big impact on me, and was most likely the main reason for following the title for so long like I did.(And hey, Ron Marz stories were pretty darn good too!)
I know it's probably sacrilege to say, but I prefer Lim's Surfer to past artists like John Buscema and yes, even Jack Kirby. Yes, I know that'll piss a lot of Kirby fans off, but I really stand by Lim's interpretation.

Likewise, I really liked the way Lim drew Cap. Again, he was clean and very well drawn. If you haven't already, I highly suggest checking out Lim's run on Captain America. Runs like "Streets of Poison", and the 380's issues are truly works of art. So come for the Ron Lim art and stay for the Mark Gruenwald stories.

After Surfer, Lim did other work, like Spider-Man Unlimited(remember that experiment?) and X-Men 2099. I checked this one out mainly for the art, and while the stories were good, I just couldn't get into them like I could their current Namesakes.

Around that period of time, Lim did the artwork on the whole Infinity Trilogy; namely Infinity Gauntlet, Infinity War, and finally the Infinity Crusade. I liked the 1st two, but just could not get into Crusade. Yes the pictures were all pretty, but I just couldn't get into the Goddess. I preferred Magnus as the only legitimate evil side of Adam Warlock.

And while Lim did do some work for DC, like Green Lantern and The Rann/Thanagar War, I feel his best work was done at Marvel. If you don't believe me, just check out his artwork on Iron Man: Legacy of Doom and Anita Blake and tell me he still doesn't have it.

Overall, while I'm not sure where Ron Lim ranks amongst the best and brightest of comic book artists, but to me he's as underrated as Alice Cooper was. And that my friends is a crime!
