The Devil Inside

Today's going be a real, shorty-short one folks.
Why you my ask? Well I'm feeling a little lazy, but I also have to pack for my birthday weekend trip, so there.

Oh don't worry, I'll be back by Monday. And if not, well then I guess one of the fab Four(no not those fab four) can play rocks, paper, scissors to see who gets to run the House.

Knowing them, they'll just turn it into a frat house filled with strippers, loose women, and all the beer you can drink.

Well that just sucks; throwing a kick-ass party like that only after I'm gone. Some friends:(

today's short-shot involves the Blue Devil, so enjoy!

-Blue Devil climbs up out of the dark chamber.

Blue Devil: "Whew! Damn, that was some work climbing up out of there. Ugh! I think I saw my dignity and Dan Didio's soul down there. Coincidence? I think not."

-Blue Devil looks back down

"Yep. They're down there all right. And look, there's the entire pre-rebooted DCU continuity down there too. Huh. Far out. Sad, but far out."

What? Hey I feel as a paying customer, and yes I still do occasionally buy DC Comics,( But more often than not its the trades I buy nowadays) that I can readily and willfully rip on books that out right suck.

If you've followed this blog long enough, then it should be no surprise that I openly have disdain for Dan Didio and the current editorial regime over there. I'm not blaming, nor do I have issues with the characters themselves. I'm not because they're simply imaginary characters subject to the whim of the very company that owns them. So it's not their fault when they act uncharacteristically and say and do shit they wouldn't normally do(i.e. the current Justice League title). And no, I can't blame the entire company, since that entails blaming the production staff, trade paperback staff, and various other groups of workers. So I won't, although I will throw the crew responsible for the DCUC toy line in there based off the repeatedly stupid and asinine decisions they've made lately regarding that line's fate.
But that's besides the point.

I know I've bitched about this repeatedly, so I'll stop for now, but I abso-fucking-lutley hate the reboot! I don't care what people or some comic professionals say, the reboot makes no sense and is completely unnecessary. I'll leave it to other, more comic industry-oriented websites like Bleedingcool.com can supply you with the exact sales figures, but by and large they haven't super-boosted the industry. Some say it was the shot in the arm, the industry needed. Really? 30-odd years of continuity flushed down the drain just so the company could justify new shiny #1's and ugly costumes?

That and they needed to reboot everything just to publish digital comics?  I'm pretty sure they could have done that and left things they way they were. And aside from the horrible Teen Titans and Superboy rebooted relaunches, you honestly expect me to believe they couldn't have told the types of stories they have so far and put out the types of books they had without having to go through the rebooting process?

 Not buying it. Especially when you see titles like GL, Batman, and even Aquaman go on like nothing's really happened.

But I digress. I know, I know, I just have to get over it like everyone else did, but still......

Anyhoo, I'll leave you guys with something positive and fun, since I am Mr. Morbid and not Mr. Angry, and this is the House of Fun, and not the House of complaining. So with that in mind, here's some INXS, and their hit "Devil Inside."

Happy Hump Day folks! That's right, this is the middle of the work-week, so press on, because Friday is a mere 2 days away!

I wanted to briefly discuss Dan Didio's controversial statements that all Crisis events are no longer in continuity in the rebooted DCU.

I first saw this made mention @Bleedingcool.com, and if you follow this link, you'll see what I'm talking about:

So, Didio basically states on facebook this:

So what does this mean exactly?
You know all those trade paperbacks of those famous DC events from the last few years that you "just had to buy"? They don't mean anything anymore. So basically they're worthless(continuity-wise that is) and you wasted your hard-earned money on something that won't likely be ever referenced to again.....except maybe 5-10 years down the line, or whenever Didio and Co. feel like declaring those events to have happened again.

How nice for all those loyal DC readers)and me) who bought those expensive TPBs.

So basically, Final Crisis, Infinite Crisis(which actually does deserve to be forgotten) maybe the 1st Crisis, 52, Blackest Night, Brightest Day, and Countdown no longer matter. Wow. And DC just suckered fans to "have to" buy BL and BD last year and the year before that respectively. For those poor people, I feel bad for you.

Not to mention Morrison's Batman epic storyline R.I.P. is also majorly affected, thus possibly making even that one moot as well. I wonder how Morrison personally feels about that? I'm sure the barrels full of money he's made helps, but it still has sting on a professional level.

Maybe he reads this quote by Elizabeth Bowen:
"Art is the only thing that can go on mattering once it has stopped hurting."
I will admit though, to possibly seeing Didio's view on this;(oh no Hell's frozen over!)
Like he said, this reboot is pretty much like the very 1st one back in 1985/6 w/ the 1st CRISIS.
The writers, artists, and editors all had to start continuity from scratch basically, and while that led to whole bunch of problems due to not everyone being on the same page, it also paved the way for Vertigo and other forms of progressive story-telling. So with really good books out there like Synder's Swamp Thing and Batman, and  Lemire's Animal Man, perhaps there's still hope for DC yet.
Still, it can't possibly feel good to those creators who worked on those events to see it "doesn't matter" anymore. Yes, the physical works are still out there to be enjoyed by all who own them, but that still doesn't soften the blow any less.

FOX announced they're cancelling The Chicago Code, Lie to me, Traffic Light and Human Target today.
I don't watch Chicago Code, so no big loss there. Lie to me is like House junior and I can't stand House, so again no loss there. I actually just started to watch Traffic Light, but I'm not that surprised this show's being cancelled. It's has its moments, but it's not that funny overall. I prefer watching Raising Hope instead, even though I though that show would have been axed awhile ago too. Of course it's by the same creative team that created My name is Earl, so I give it another season before getting axed as well. As for Human Target, well frankly it deserves what it got. It was nothing like the comic at all, and seemed more like 24-lite. I don't why shows that are adapted from comics/graphic novels are given the green-light when they don't resemble anything remotely like the source material they come from. Fox's Christopher Chance was nothing like real Christopher Chance from the comics who was hired to impersonate the very persons who were targeted for death. He became so much like he people he was pretending to be, that he lost a little(or alot depending on who was writing him)of his own personality during the whole process. Fox's version was nothing more than Jack Bauer part 2. It'd be nice if for once, these execs actually know and care about these adaptations before allowing these shows to be created. I don't see how it's asking too much to actually know what you're talking about before speaking, right? Same rule applies to these abominations that are allowed to be made. Oh well.....
And I hear Law&Order:LA's being cancelled too? Didn't they just cancel the main Law&Order show to make room for this new one? Wow, I guess Dick Wolf's reign on top is quickly coming to an end. Although I guess it is about time. I mean his shows have all been running for almost 2 decades now right. He should just do the right thing and cancel them all and go out with what's left of his dignity and good reputation.

I guess I should follow that up with a disclaimer. No, I don't think Dan Didio's a druggie. But if he was, I'm sure that would explain some things, and give him an out for his haters on the message boards. At least there's a few creators out there that publicly acknowledge they're use of drugs; namely Kevin Smith and Grant Morrison. There's probably more, but I don't blame them for not owning up to it. Drugs shouldn't be glorified, but if you do do them, maybe you shouldn't write while doing it. I myself can't count how many good ideas I thought were good while high, only later after sobriety hit to realize they weren't as good as I thought they were. Hey, it happens. Just ask Charlie Sheen.
